Unknowingly, John, Joshua’s friend, overhead this. Eyes widening, his slow stroll around the neighbourhood became a silent pace behind the hooligans. Spotting him, the gang gaped at him in utter shock for the split second. Without thinking, John ran as if an axe- wielding gunman was chasing him. All of a sudden, John’s foot hit a rock. Unable to stabilise himself in time, the ground came rushing up to meet him. Landing with a solid thud, John groaned in pain. However, he just realised that it was the least of his troubles as Leroy and his minions where closing up on him, a malicious smile on each of their faces. John knew that there was no place that he could hide. He closed his eyes, for the beating. Just then, a familiar voice rang out.
“What is going on here?” Lifting his head, John recognised Peter, the “English wizard” in his class. He was staring in bewilderment at the bullies and John. The bullies were stunned for half a minute, as if they had been frozen. Leroy broke the silence, snarling,” Get out of here, boy!” However, Peter refused to budge, even though he probably knew that he was about to receive a knuckle sandwich. “You cannot bait me into a fight, boy. Shouldn’t you know that?” Leroy growled.
Leroy stared at his minions and realised how Peter had trapped him. If he backed down, he would look weak, in front of his gang. However, if he accepted the challenge, he would have to scram if he lost.
“I’ll whip you, boy. The challenge holds!” He roared. The match then commenced
Leroy tried his best and even tried to scare Peter by towering over him, but the unfazed Peter was clearly the better one and defeated Leroy. His minions, once big bullies, were shocked to see this bully get defeated by a small boy and fled too. John and Peter laughed their heads off as they saw their faces. Then, Peter pulled John to Joshua’s party. Upon seeing the latter, Joshua smacked his head, groaning, “Sorry! I forgot to invite you!” After he heard the story and saw the scene for himself along with his friends, he was very grateful and thanked them profusely. Although he did not get to eat the food, he had exchanged it for the knowledge of who his friends really were.
